The DVD of Last Days of the Fillmore documents the final week of San Francisco’s Fillmore West before it closed in 1972. With performances from Santana, The Grateful Dead, Boz Scaggs, Hot Tuna, Elvin Bishop, and more, it is a great trip back in time. Our longtime friend Roy Rogers has a new album out on the Blind Pig label, and it’s called “Split Decision.” Roy tears it up with his incomparable slide guitar work. History rocked and rock made history during a sold-out three-gig stand at Madison Square Garden in late February 2008 when icons Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood performed a concert together for the first time since their all-too-brief days in the legendary Blind Faith in 1969. Whether they will ever team again is unknown. But Reprise is giving you the chance to get your hands on a copy of the performance. Born in Alabama in 1932, Iverson Minter eventually became known as Louisiana Red, jamming with the likes of BB King and Muddy Waters. Ruf Records is now releasing “Back to the Black Bayou” from Louisiana Red and Little Victor’s Juke Joint. We have got a bunch of free copies for Blues Brethren. One of our favorite bands is The North Mississippi Allstars. Now, Allstar Cody Dickinson has formed a spinoff group, the Hill Country Revue, which delivers what Cody calls gritty, nasty, stripped-down blues. The folks at Razor and Tie Records have passed along a few copies for the Blues Brethren. We are giving away copies of a new release from Alligator Records. Eric Lindell was raised in California but these days lives in New Orleans. You can hear the Delta influence on his new CD “Gulf Coast Highway.” This week we are giving away new music from Black Joe Louis and the Honeybears out of Austin, Texas. They have a cool vintage horn-driven sound akin to James Brown. Some call it Garage Soul. Call it what you want, it is cool. Our good friends at DeltaGroove and ElectoGroove Records have a couple of new CDs on the way: one from Jason Ricci and New Blood called “Done with the Devil”, and a new one from the Insomniacs called “At Least I’m Not With You.” We’ve got a handful of each CD and if you’re a winner, you will get them both.
The fine folks at Rhino Records know that blues fans love all kinds of music, and they want you to know about a brand new release from the vaults of The Grateful Dead. It’s a 3-disc live recording called “To Terrapin: Hartford ’77,” and we’ve got a bunch of copies for Blues Brethren. The youngest of the four Neville Brothers, Cyril Neville, has a new album out called BRAND NEW BLUES. Our friends at M.C. Records have passed along copies to give away to five lucky listeners. If you recall the earliest version of Fleetwood Mac, you remember it as a great blues band. That band is back, with Rick Vito leading the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band. They have just released a new live album called “Blue Again,” and Mick’s label 429 Records wants you to have a copy. I have some great Chicago Blues to be given away this week. It’s Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials and their latest album “Full Tilt.” Our friends at Chicago’s legendary Alligator Records have passed along a handful of copies to pass along to you. Our good friend Duke Robillard has a new project, and if you love swing, you are gonna absolutely love this. The outfit is called Sunny and Her Joy Boys and the CD is just out on Stony Plain Records. And we have five copies to give to you, my Blues Brethren. JJ Cale’s new CD Roll On is CD of the Month this month. It is JJ’s first batch of new material since 2004 and it comes on the heels of his Grammy Award for The Road to Escondido—the collaboration with Eric Clapton.
Cookie Mariano and her band The Vagrantz were fixtures along the Treasure Coast. We're saddened to hear of Cookie's recent passing due to cancer. The good folks at Blues Destiny records want 10 of the Brethren to have copies of their latest -- a 19-song disc called “Destiny Blues.”
You may have heard dobro player Rocco DeLuca a few years back, playing with the likes of Taj Mahal, John Mayall, and John Lee Hooker. He formed his own band “The Burden” in 2005, and they had a great debut in 2007. Eddy Clearwater moved to Chicago from his native Mississippi in 1950, where the legendary guitar master, Magic Sam, took him under his wing. Eddy earned the nickname “The Chief” and became a legend of the Chicago Blues scene. His latest CD is called "West Side Strut", and thanks to Alligator Records, you can pick up a copy for free. There’s a new CD out from New York bluesman Guy Davis. It’s called “Sweetheart Like You” and Guy’s record label, Red House Records” has passed along 10 copies for me to pass along to you. Jorma Kaukonen has been making great music now for more than 40 years – from The Jefferson Airplane to Hot Tuna. Jorma has a new album coming out next week called “River of Time.” Red House Records wants to reward the Blues Brethren by giving away 10 copies of Jorma’s new CD. Delta Groove Records has two brand new releases coming in February. The Soul of John Black has a new album entitled "Black John". And Bobby Jones of the Mannish Boys has a solo effort called "Comin' Back Hard". Delta Groove gave us ten copies of each of these to pass along to a lucky ten of you. Peter McGraw "Party, Party, Party!" Canadian bluesman Peter McGraw is back with a new album, and Donnie Walsh from Downchild Blues Band is sitting in. The title track of the album, “Party Party Party” is our blues breaker this week, January 24-25, and to celebrate, we have ten free copies to hand out to the Blues Brethren.

New York Blues Queen Roxy Perry was voted as one of 2008’s top artists.
