Looking down the road ahead, I see some great House of Blues Radio Hours coming up. The future is bright with blues!  Lemme know who you'd like to hear on the show some day.

If you're looking for stuff we've already played, check our archives.

Sep 4-5, 2010

There’s a great new biography of Johnny Winter, RAISIN’ CAIN, and Elwood takes the occasion to take a look back at the music and life of this highly influential Texas bluesman. Biographer Mary Lou Sullivan joins Elwood to share some prime Winter tales, and spin his tunes, including his work with Muddy Waters (giving Muddy a second career). Exclusive interview tape with Johnny Winter is also part of the mix. Plus: Bobby "Blue" Bland, brother Edgar Winter, and new music from the California Honeydrops. Go to our contest page and register to win two great Johnny Winter DVDs– Johnny Winter Live Through the 70s and Live Through the 80s. While you are there, there are also five copies of HARMONICA BLUES, from harp player Bob Corritore, just waiting to be won.

Sep 11-12, 2010

Elwood continues his tribute to the great Johnny Winter, with Mary Lou Sullivan, author of RAISIN’ CAIN: THE WILD AND RAUCOUS STORY OF JOHNNY WINTER. Wild and raucous stories will be told (including the one about Janis Joplin). Exclusive archival Radio Hour audio interviews with Mr. Winter will be played. And Johnny Winter’s music, of course. Plus, Big Brother and Holding Company, Howlin’ Wolf, and new music from Duke Robillard. Here on the contest page, there is still a chance to win two Johnny Winter DVDs: Johnny Winter Live Through the 70s, and Live Through the 80s. Plus: you can win copies of the new CD, BIG BOOGIE VOODOO, from Dr. John-influenced Tampa Bay piano man Lee Pons. More! A prize package for the October 2nd Sun Trust Big Lick Blues Festival in Roanoke, Virginia.

Sep 18-19, 2010

Forty years after his passing, Jimi Hendrix continues to attract a huge following and be a major influence on blues players. 2010 saw the re-release of the major Jimi Hendrix Experience albums (each with its own DVD), and the release of VALLEYS OF NEPTUNE, more than an hour’s worth of previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix music. Elwood shares some of that with us,.  And Elwood talks with sister Janie Hendrix about what Jimi was really like. Plus: new music from Florida swamp rocker JJ Grey. On the contest page this week: copies of our DVD of the Month, The Mississippi Sheiks Tribute Concert. Dave Alvin, Geoff Muldaur, John Hammond, and Van Dyke Parks got together in Vancouver to perform the music of the Mississippi Sheiks. Plus, take a chance on a free blues tee-shirt from bluescentric.com, a new website with tee-shirts, posters, music and more. Check us out, then check them out.
