Looking down the road ahead, I see some great House of Blues Radio Hours coming up. The future is bright with blues! Lemme know who you'd like to hear on the show some day.
If you're looking for stuff we've already played, check our archives.
| July 4-5, 2009 | The Radio Hour clues you in to more blues festivals in the United States and Canada, and plays some of the great talent you will find at them, including Mitch Woods, Eddy Clearwater, Tommy Castro, Joe Bonamassa, Saffire, The Soul of John Black, Elvin Bishop, and more. All that, and new music from a smoking young band out of Portland, Oregon – the Informants. Plus, a chance for you to win the new record by Canadian bluesman Jim Byrnes, MY WALKING STICK, which is a great mix of R&B, gospel, soul, and good old blues. | | | July 11-12, 2009 | Slide guitar master Roy Rogers is back with his band, the Delta Rhythm Kings, and his first studio album in seven years, SPLIT DECISION. Roy hunkers down with Elwood to chat about that. And also the differences between recording albums with John Lee Hooker (Grammy-winning THE HEALER), and himself. And what it is like to swap slide solos with Bonnie Raitt. Roy also gives us a live performance in the Radio Hour studios. To wrap things up, Tower of Power has a new record, putting their distinctive funky spin on some soul classics. We play a track from THE AMERICAN SOUL BOOK. This week’s contest offers a few lucky listeners a chance to win - thanks to Delmark Records - the brand new CD from Chicago bluesman, Eddie C. Campbell. | | | July 18-19, 2009 | Duke Robillard joins Elwood to talk about STOMP THE BLUES, his salute to the jump and jive blues of the 1940’s and 50's. He talks about how he developed his eclectic style of playing, with Roomful of Blues, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and by backing people like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. Elwood and Duke dig deeper into the big band blues sound with classic tracks from Louis Armstrong and Wynonie Harris. And some lucky listeners will get to take home the debut album, WHITE SUGAR by the British player, Joanne Shaw Taylor. She is a combination of Dusty Springfield and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and she is very good. All that, plus a taste of the new record, MY WALKING STICK, from the great veteran Vancouver bluesman, Jim Byrnes. |
