Johnnie Bassett- "Meat On Them Bones" (August 31- September 4, 2009)

Johnnie Bassett
"Meat on Them Bones"
The Gentleman Is Back
Sky Dog Records

As a child in Florida, Johnnie Bassett used to see people like Tampa Red and Big Boy Crudup perform at the fish frys in his mother’s backyard.  He moved to Detroit as a teenager, and wound up playing with visiting artists like Ruth Brown and Big Joe Turner, and locals like John Lee Hooker. After a stint in the army Bassett moved to Seattle, where he jammed with Hendrix, and backed up Tina Turner.  He returned to Detroit in the sixties and has been a local blues superstar ever since.

His new CD is called The Gentleman Is Back.
